Refreshing the Community

Category: Uncategorized

Author: Caleb Brown, Plant Operations Director

As spring arrives, our team turns its attention to one of the most visible parts of our community: landscaping. Beautiful grounds do not happen by chance. They come from thoughtful planning, seasonal preparation, and steady attention to detail.

After winter, I take a proactive approach to refreshing our outdoor spaces. My goal is to keep them visually appealing, safe, and enjoyable for residents. As the Plant Operations Director at The Castlewood Senior Living, I focus on the steps that help our community look its best each spring.

Creating a Welcoming First Impression

For the spring refresh, my team evaluates areas that need attention. We focus especially on first impressions. At Arrow communities, each property should feel beautiful, clean, and welcoming.

A large, covered seating area rests in a wooded area at The Castlewood Senior Living.

Landscaping is one of the most noticeable seasonal changes. Because of that, we update the plants in the entrance pots to reflect the current season.

A recent seasonal project involved refreshing the garden bed. Residents worked with our team to plant vegetables this year. We also partnered with them to maintain a consistent watering schedule.

We complete multiple walkthroughs and take note of key areas. These include entrances, beds, bushes, trees, and the fence line. We also review these areas daily during our morning property walks.

Planning Ahead

Some common spring startup issues include leaf accumulation in certain areas. Leaves often gather under bushes, between buildings and AC units, and near trash enclosures. These areas stay consistent each year.

To stay proactive, we identify when the last seasonal leaves are coming through. Then, we schedule cleanup on those days.

Next season, I plan to create a landscaping timeline. This will help us plan projects as needed or as ownership requests them. It will also help the community stay consistent with upgrades and keep the grounds welcoming.

It is easy to see the finished product, but real success comes from teamwork. Coordination, accountability, and pride help bring each project together. These efforts ensure The Castlewood Senior Living continues to meet the standards residents expect while setting the tone for the months ahead.
