Cookbook Magic at Castlewood Senior Living

Category: Culinary

Author: Sara Smith, Culinary Director

For numerous chefs, there exists a pivotal cookbook that served as the catalyst for their culinary journey. This single book ignited an idea, unlocking a passion for cooking they may not have realized they possessed. Cookbooks transcend mere collections of recipes; they serve as windows into cultures, histories, and personal narratives. With each page turn, a new adventure, tradition, or innovative technique unfolds.

Every recipe and cookbook, whether passed down through generations or reimagined, enriches our culinary culture at The Castlewood Senior Living. Exploring culinary resources nurtures and evolves our love for food and cooking.

My current cookbook collection comprises an abundance of books and cooking magazines! Among them, my favorite is a couple of handmade ones passed down from my mom and her mother. I adore these books because they contain little clippings from old newspapers and magazines that both my mom and grandma saved.

To pique my interest, a cookbook must offer new takes on old recipes, making them enjoyable for any generation. I enjoy experimenting with different food combinations for my family, ensuring we’re not stuck with the same dishes all the time.

I possess a recipe for amazing homemade rolls passed down from my sister. About two years before she passed away, she wrote out the recipe, which now hangs on my kitchen wall.

My favorite recipes to develop are always desserts. I relish trying out various flavors and textures in cakes.

Generational recipes or new culinary creations can spark nostalgia and inspire our cooking journey. Whether you’re a seasoned chef or a home cook, we all have that one foolproof recipe. Don’t overlook the power of beloved cookbooks and their stories. Keep sharing and savoring the diverse flavors that await us.
