Castlewood Summer Safety Tips

Category: Technology and Safety

Author: Caleb Brown, Plant Operations Director

As summer heats up, we at The Castlewood Senior Living prioritize maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for our older adult residents. Rising temperatures present unique challenges, especially in our senior living community, where residents are more vulnerable to heat-related issues. Our maintenance team follows some essential safety measures to ensure a safe, smooth-running, and pleasant summer for everyone.

We inspect air conditioning units regularly to ensure they function correctly and replace air filters to maintain air quality. Thermostats are set at comfortable temperatures, and cooling is monitored in common areas and resident rooms.

Team’s Maintenance and Safety Measures

  • Provide shaded seating in outdoor areas
  • Inspect and repair walkways to prevent trips
  • Increase pest control to keep areas free from insects
  • Check ventilation in common areas and kitchens
  • Inspect electrical systems to prevent overloads
  • Clean roofs and gutters to avoid leaks and water damage

We educate residents on staying hydrated and avoiding peak heat hours by distributing flyers and holding meetings. We also promote indoor events during extreme heat to keep residents engaged and safe.

In our community, I ensure my team recognizes the signs of heat stroke, knows how to avoid overheating, and wears proper sunscreen and eye protection during extended outdoor work. A helpful summer safety tip for all Arrow communities is to clean air handler condenser coils in early spring to prevent air conditioner issues later in the summer, reducing the need for outdoor maintenance during the hottest part of the year.

Hosting an outdoor cookout with live music can provide a safe environment for residents to enjoy the outdoors and attract new people, helping to drive and support occupancy in our community.

Following these tips ensures The Castlewood Senior Living remains safe, comfortable, and enjoyable for all residents and staff throughout the summer months. Our dedication to maintaining a secure environment is essential to everyone’s well-being.
